How did I get here?

Substance abuse and addiction do not happen overnight and are the result of many experiences and factors, over an extended period of time. Addiction is partly genetic, partly psychological, it is affected by your family of origin and the larger environment that you grew up in. For many, drinking or using drugs was a way of coping with difficult or frightening experiences, because other healthy strategies for navigating the challenges of life were not modelled.

Addiction is isolating and sometimes feels hopeless.

Chemical coping takes on a life of its own after a period of time; negative consequences start to add up, people get hurt but you cannot stop. This is the essence of addiction. It’s not because you are a bad or weak person. It’s about pain that you don’t know how to process or heal.

You don’t have to face recovery alone.

With over five years experience as an addiction counsellor in a residential treatment centre, I can help you begin to unravel the pain that made alcohol or drugs your solution. Learn new ways to calm and cope with difficult emotions without using a substance. Learn to forgive yourself as you accept responsibility for your life and behaviours.

You have found a safe, non-judgemental place to talk about what you are going through. Are you ready to get started?
